FN-FORUM: Data recovery - is there any chance at all??

Afternoon all

I've just discovered that when my fiance recently reformatted his PC and
installed a new OS, he somehow managed not to back up an essential
folder. I'm now facing days of work to recreate some of the stuff that's
been lost (why oh why is it that only some things were lost and the
piece that took days to do has gone, instead of the really short easy
bits??!!).

Before I consign myself to an afternoon of stiff gins, can anyone tell
me if there's any possible chance at all of recovering data when the
hard drive's been reformatted, a new OS installed and the PC used for a
month?
